Millionth Visitor Welcomed to Jamaica

Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, welcomed the one millionth stopover visitor to Jamaica to date in 2017. The Minister said this historic achievement had resulted in earnings for the tourism sector of more than US$1.2 billion. According to Bartlett, this is the first time that Jamaica has ever recorded a million stopover arrivals before the middle of a year. Reaching this number so quickly means that growth projections for the sector are on track. Bartlett made his remarks after greeting visitors Paulette and Henry Murray, who arrived at the Sangster International Airport. They traveled by American Airlines from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All growth projections were exceeded, according to the Ministry. Bartlett noted the significance of this occurrence for opportunities in job creation and higher earnings, as well as for helping to quantify the actual revenue flow in foreign exchange into Jamaica.
