The production of Red Stripe beer for export to North America is scheduled for repatriation to Jamaica by Desnoes and Geddes Limited (D&G) in September 2016. The decision comes after Heineken acquired a controlling interest in D&G in October 2015. Heineken wants to reestablish Jamaica as the global center for the iconic island brew. According to Ricardo Nuncio, managing director of Red Stripe, the firm is committed to bring the U.S. Red Stripe volume back to Jamaica. He also said it “feels very good” to bring the beer’s production back to its roots. In addition, Nuncio stated that the repatriation of the brand is just one in a series of moves planned for the strategic positioning of Red Stripe as an important global brand. Red Stripe’s production was moved to the U.S. in 2013.
