According to Hans Vestberg, CEO of Ericsson, the world’s largest vendor of telecommunications equipment, the 5G wireless networks coming in the next decade will be 100 times faster than those currently available, but that’s not all. The future 5G networks will be able to know what type of device is being used to connect and what its purpose is in connecting. Vestberg says that the networks will act differently depending on the way they are accessed. For example, different actions will be triggered if a network is being used by a heart monitor at a patient’s home or by a self-driving car on a highway during rush hour. It is hoped that the opportunities presented by the smart and speedy 5G networks will encourage more interest from investors as businesses determine how the additional capabilities can be utilized to transform their operations.
