There is nothing in this world that is greater than love. Living without love is like diving into an empty pool. You are bound to experience major hurt and pain. Real love is like a sweet fruit you cannot stop eating.
As Michelle and I journey together in marriage we experience seasons of hardship. If it were not for love our journey would have sadly ended. Understanding the true meaning of love allows husbands and wives to show true love. It is true love that will allow a marriage to experience peace, joy, and harmony. This is why husbands must love their wives like Christ loves his church, us! This is why wives must submit to their husband’s spiritual leadership out of love for Christ. However, we all fail in being consistent with showing real love to each other at times, and understandably so. We are mere humans.
No husband consistently shows love every second of the day and neither is there a wife exempt from messing up by not showing respect to her husband all the time. Yet, we expect consistency from each other. God said “Love your wife and respect your husband” not “love your PERFECT wife and respect your PERFECT husband.” We all fall short. This is why I tell spouses this truth that helps them in times of need for the love and respect they crave and do not get from each other. This one type of love will never fail you as a husband or wife. It is the most consistent and dependable that never disappoints. You can rely on it even in a season of lack from your spouse due to his or her or even your weakness and imperfections.
The Love Of God
There are times in my marriage when I have to make God my spouse for that moment. Not that I seek to use God. You cannot use God. He will not be mocked. But God loves when you draw close to Him in relationship to the point of allowing Him to show you His gentle love and kindness. He is the master of marriage. He created marriage. He not only created marriage, but He also created love. GOD IS LOVE! God wants every husband and wife to love each other but He desires to show you His perfect love when you draw close to Him, spending quality time with Him.
If you are in a marriage and experiencing a season of lack of love from your spouse, do not run away from the marriage. This is when you need to run to God, the creator of marriage. Cry out to Him in prayer, spend time speaking with Him, and allow Him to shower you with His perfect love. Your spouse will be amazed to see a change in you that will draw them back to show you love and respect in the marriage. Michelle and I are living testimonies of this fact.
Remember, The love of God is greater than the love you can get from your spouse any day! God expects you to love each other in marriage but understands that your love is not perfect. This is why He is right there in a time of lack just waiting for you to draw close to Him and allow Him to draw close to you and change you and your spouse to have a greater marriage. Huddle up and enjoy your journey as you grow together in greater love for each other through receiving God’s PERFECT love.
“Draw close to God and He will draw close to you” James 4:8.
