The scheduled slate of ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 matches designated to take place at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida certainly did not get to enjoy the Sunshine State’s claim to fame—the Sun. And so, the June 15th India vs. Canada match suffered the same abandonment fate as did Sri Lanka vs. Nepal earlier in the same week.
As it happened the India vs. Canada face-off succumbed to a rain saturated outfield due to torrential rains the day and night before in the area. For the most part, it was not a bad day with intermittent drizzle occuring around the 10:30 am scheduled start time. However, delays then ensued on account of the two inspections of the field conducted by the attending umpires. The groundstaff toiled sedulously for upwards of three hours in their efforts to dry the field using all that they had at their disposal. But, to no avail as the umpires remained unconvinced that the outfield was safe enough for play. As as result, both India and Canada settled for a point each. Meanwhile, the robust contingent of Team India fans that filled the stadium were as enthusiastic as ever despite the fact that not a ball got bowled by either side. That meant that India qualified the super eights of the T20 World Cup 2024 unbeaten after the abandoned match against Canada in Lauderhill, Florida.
