Errol Simpson, a 41-year-old Jamaican man, ingested 148 pellets that contained almost three pounds of cocaine in total, according to federal authorities in Florida who arrested him at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Simpson is facing charges of drug smuggling for his attempt to transport the drug, with an estimated value of $38,000 on the street, by swallowing the pellets. Simpson weighs 195 pounds and is 5 feet, 8 inches tall. On September 15, 2015, the self-employed mechanic, was taken into custody after U.S. Immigration and Customs agents thought he acted “nervous” and provided inconsistent answers to questions about his travel plans. He was taken to a local hospital where x-rays showed the pellets in his system. He said he would be paid some $5,000. If convicted, Simpson faces between five and 40 years in prison.
