Day 183 of 365 Things to Do, See & Eat in Jamaica – Savor the Joy of Jerk at the Portland Jerk Festival

Held at the Folly Estate in July, the Portland Jerk Festival has been a destination of choice for all lovers of jerk-style grilling for some fourteen years. Chefs offer meat marinated with allspice, thyme and the very hot red pepper, the scotch bonnet.Jerk aficionados should get there early to cheer the chefs and sample a variety of hot lobster, sausage, pork and chicken. For vegetarians, the chefs offer vegetables done jerk-style accompanied with rice and peas, yams or roasted breadfruit. Cool off your taste buds with Jamaica’s own Red Stripe beer. It’s an all-day event that features live music performances as hot as the cuisine.
