Day 240 of 365 Things to Do, See & Eat in Jamaica – See the Training Ground of the Jamaican Defense Force

A great spectacle that can be seen in Newcastle, located in the hills to the northeast of Kingston. This training ground was once a British Fort that was established in 1841. Major William Gomm built the fort to escape from yellow fever on the plains below. Newcastle rises some 4,000 feet above Kingston so it was safer for the troops. Today, the Jamaica Defense Force can be observed going through its paces, and they put on a good show for visitors.
