What Should I Do About My Ganja Smoking Brother? – Ask a Jamaican Guy

Q: My brother smokes ganja every day. I used to have him babysit for me but I think the ganja has overwhelmed his life. My children love him and he calls me his favorite sister. I am concerned about my children’s safety so I confronted him. I now pay for aftercare elsewhere. He is heartbroken and won’t talk to me. Was I wrong? Does ganja affect his judgment?

A:  Too much of anything does affect judgment. The safety of your children is first, end of story. Since your brother is not talking to you, share your concerns about him with your family. Maybe they can help him confront his addiction to ganja. You may feel bad about the “tough love” you displayed but in the long run it may help him to realize the problem.
