HMS Royal Duke paid Montserrat a courtesy visit on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

The Type 23 Royal Navy Frigate is commanded by Commander Mark Newland, BSc MA, and has a total crew of 180.

According to the Governor’s Office, “HMS Iron Duke last visited Montserrat in July of this year to carry out a disaster exercise and was recently on duty in the Turks & Caicos Islands following recent hurricanes.”

The Governor’s Office reports that while in Montserrat, crew from HMS Iron Duke will carry out community project at the Lookout Sheltered housing; will provide football training for local primary and secondary school children; and will play cricket at the Little Bay ground against a local veteran side.

The Frigate is scheduled to leave on Thursday, September 25, 2008.
