South Africa plans to roll out the continent’s first coronavirus vaccine trial this week, according to the university leading the pilot. The vaccine candidate, developed by the Oxford Jenner Institute in the United Kingdom, is already being evaluated there, where 4,000 participants have signed up for the trial. The country grapples with the highest number of coronavirus cases in Africa, with more than 100,000 confirmed infections and more than 2,000 deaths. Al Jazeera’s Fahmida Miller reports from Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape, one of the poorest provinces likely to be hit the hardest unless a vaccine is found soon. – Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe – Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish – Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera – Check our website: https://www.aljazeera.com/
