Yellowman was and is an oddity. At the height of his popularity in the early 80s he was at least as big as Bob Marley in Jamaica. Born Winston Foster, Yellowman came into this world back in 1959 in Kingston. An orphaned albino, Yellow’s formative years included time at the famous Alpha Boys School and the musical influences of that experience provided him with a very real sense of style and originality. Coupled with his wicked sense of humour he rode rhythms like no other before him and as a result left all of the competition in his wake. The first Jamaican DJ to be signed to a major American label, King Yellow’s place in the history of Jamaican music was truly well earned.
